On Saturday, August 23, 2025, Naija Girls in Tech (NGiT) hosted its Lagos Seminar under the inspiring theme, “Empowering the Next Generation of Women in Tech.” The event, which brought together over 50 young women, industry leaders, mentors, and partners in Lagos and online from the UK, marked a powerful step forward in bridging the gender gap in Africa’s digital economy.

A Call to Belong in Tech

In her welcome address, NGiT’s Global Director, Mrs. Omatseye Oti, set the tone by declaring: “The future of technology is not complete without the voices, creativity, innovation, and leadership of women. Every single one of you belongs in tech.”

She encouraged participants to embrace opportunities, connect with mentors, and see themselves as innovators and leaders shaping Africa’s digital future.

Breaking Barriers with Knowledge and Inspiration

The seminar featured a rich agenda of storytelling, participant engagement, and knowledge-sharing. Highlights included:

Real-World Success Stories

Anchored by Sandra Iheaneatu, who also shared her tech journey and passion to learn more, this segment brought to life the possibilities available for girls and women in tech.

Tiffany-Joy Adesanya shared her tech experience as an 18-year-old certified Cloud Computing tech enthusiast. She explained how seeing her mother thrive in tech became the fuel for her dreams and aspirations.

Several registered attendees also spoke about their aspirations and what they hoped to gain from NGiT.

Keynote Session

NGiT’s Founder and CEO, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Ogunwo-Adesanya, delivered a powerful presentation on the opportunities and pathways available in technology.

Her keynote address titled “Unlocking Your Future in Tech” explored Africa’s booming digital industry and highlighted career opportunities for women in fields such as cybersecurity, AI, cloud computing, web development, UI/UX design, and data science. She emphasised that closing the gender gap in tech could add $229 billion to Nigeria’s GDP by 2025 and stressed the importance of empowering women not just to consume technology, but to create, lead, and own it.

Transforming Passion into Pathways

Mrs. Ogunwo-Adesanya also shared her personal journey into data protection, cybersecurity, and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC), underscoring the value of resilience, mentorship, and continuous learning.

Participants were given practical guidance on how to become job-ready within 6–12 months through NGiT’s training programs, certifications, and mentorship support.

Impact and Next Steps

With more than 50 participants in attendance, the seminar succeeded in raising awareness, building confidence, and sparking determination among participants to pursue careers in technology.

Looking ahead, NGiT announced that it will be launching structured training and mentorship cohorts in areas such as Web Development, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis, and UI/UX. The initiative will continue to engage participants through digital platforms, networking, and future events.

The event closed with an atmosphere of energy and hope, as participants connected with organisers and peers, ready to take their next steps in the tech world.

Naija Girls in Tech extends heartfelt gratitude to its volunteers, partners, and participants for making the Lagos Seminar 2025 a success.
